Team Participation Incentive Program - Fall Programs

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Fall Team Participation Incentive Program is to encourage participation among parents and other adults in our region. AYSO Region 47 is an all-volunteer organization which works because thousands of adults “do their part” each year to help our soccer program and your child. The Team Participation Incentive Program is one small way of thanking those who contribute to a successful season.

While we appreciate all volunteer efforts, the participation of adults is the core foundation of a strong AYSO program. Therefore, this Team Participation Incentive Program is specifically focused on participation by adults. They may also earn school Community Service hours.

INCENTIVES
U10, U12 and U14 teams
These teams can earn up to a maximum of 30 points towards the Regional Tournament. The top placing teams in the Regional Tournament go on to represent Region 47 in Area Championship Tournament! Instead of starting the Regional Tournament even with other teams, you have the opportunity to start off with an “extra” 3-0 win (30 points)!

U5 and U6 and U8 teams
Those teams who have accumulated a minimum number of points (U5,U6 – 15 points; U8 – 20 points) by the end of the Fall season will be awarded medals for all players, plus 3 extra medals. The kids will love these colorful, shiny medals and ribbons!

U16/U19 teams
Those teams who have accumulated a minimum of 20 points by the end of their Fall season (in November) will be reimbursed up to $75.00 for the costs of a team party or team trophies/medals. Alternately, the team may request volunteer medals for all players.

PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES
Teams can earn Participation Points through a wide variety of activities, as listed below. There are several ways any parent or adult can help their team(s)! Like any program, there are a few important details, so be sure to read everything.

Summary of Maximum Participation Points:
Coach: 4 points Fundraiser: 1 points
Team Parent: 1 point Extra Credit: 7 points
Referee Certification: 3 points Refereeing: No maximum
Snack Bar/Field Duty/AYSO Day: 5 points Team Rating forms: 1 point
Overall maximum: 30 points

Referee Certification (1 point per person; 3 points maximum)
All teams have the opportunity to recruit parents or other adults to complete the Regional Referee course. To qualify for the point, the Regional Referee course needs to be completed prior to October 1st and the referee must be willing to be assigned a customized referee schedule for the Fall season.

Previously trained referees can earn a Participation Point by both 1) properly completing a Volunteer Application for the Fall season AND 2) completing a Referee Data Sheet (becoming an Active Referee) so the region can create a customized referee schedule for the referee.

Coach (2 points plus 2 points; 4 points maximum)
The team's Head Coach (but sorry, not the assistant coach) can earn two 2 Participation Points by doing all 3 of the following:

fully and properly completing a Volunteer Application at the Fall 2004 Coach’s Meeting (or, if later, within ten days of accepting the coaching assignment) AND
successfully completing any AYSO Coaching course prior to October 1st (courses taken in previous years do count); AND
Documenting that they have completed the Coach Safe Haven course.
In addition, the Head Coach can also earn two (2) more points for taking, prior to October 1st, an AYSO Coaching course appropriate to the age level of the team. For new coaches, the U12 clinic counts as “age appropriate” for all teams. For all experienced coaches, the Intermediate coaching clinic must be taken to count as “age appropriate” for U14, U16 and U19 teams. Courses taken in prior years count, if the Head Coach can prove they took the course (you do have your paperwork, don’t you!?!)

Refereeing Games (½ point per game; no separate maximum)
Each trained and uniformed referee or assistant referee in U8 or higher matches will earn ½ of a Participation Point per game for their team. There is no separate maximum for refereeing games. A referee can only designate this ½ point for one team in a single game. Refereeing points are determined from the completed game cards collected after each game. Be legible, be complete, be accurate and be prompt in turning in the game card at the Referee Station shortly after the match!

Snack Bar, Field Duty or AYSO Day (up to 5 points per assignment; 5 points maximum)
Scheduled teams are asked to provide 4 adults to assist in these key areas. If all four team representatives complete the entire scheduled shift, the team will receive a total of five (5) Participation Points. If three people complete the entire scheduled shift, 3 points will be awarded. If two people complete the entire scheduled shift, 2 points will be awarded, etc. If the team is a no show, the team receives zero points. To receive credit, the team volunteers must sign in and out on the log provided.

Extra Credit (7 points or 12 points maximum, see below)
All teams have an opportunity to earn additional Participation Points by doing extra duties such as helping on lining fields, AYSO (Picture) Day, Snack Bar, Field Duty, etc. Generally, teams will earn ½ point for each hour of completed "Extra Credit" duty. Arrangements for Extra Credit duty must be approved in advance by the Board Member in charge of the function.

Teams that are not assigned to Snack Bar, Field Duty or AYSO Day duty can earn an extra 5 Participation Points in other areas as extra credit. This ensures that all teams have the opportunity to earn the same 17 total Participation Points among these 4 areas - Snack Bar, Field Duty, AYSO Day and Extra Credit.

Team Parent (1 point maximum)
The Team Parent can earn 1 Participation Point by doing all of the following:
attending the Team Parent meeting and picking up the team fundraiser candy, AND
properly and fully completing a Volunteer Application at the Team Parent Meeting, AND
distributing Region 47’s Red Books to all parents on the team.
Fundraiser (1 points maximum)
A team can earn two Participation Points by turning in 100% of the team's fundraiser money (based on the number of cases of candy actually taken by the team, not the number of cases listed above) by the Second Saturday in October .

Team Rating form (1 point maximum)
A U8 and higher team can earn one Participation Point by turning in a complete, carefully filled-out Fall Player Rating form no later than the Last Saturday in October.

Additional notes: General
Adults that do not complete a full shift will earn partial credit. Children working in the Snack Bar or Field Maintenance must be at least 13 years old and act maturely. In order to drive a golf cart, you must be over 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license and be insured. AYSO Day volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

More than one child playing?
If you are a coach, referee or team parent for more than one team (as reflected on the team’s separate Team Volunteer Lists turned in at the start of the season), then any referee certification, coach certification or team parent points will be earned by all of your children’s teams if you otherwise meet the requirements for those points. Each game’s refereeing points may only be assigned to one team. Be sure to write down the appropriate team number on the game card. By changing the team number you write down from game to game, you can earn points for all of your children’s teams over the course of the season. Snack Bar/Field Duty/AYSO Day, Fundraising and Extra Credit points are dependent on a team’s efforts, so these points can only be credited to one team at a time.

Again, the purpose of the Fall Team Participation Incentive Program is to encourage more participation among parents and other adults in our region. It’s certainly not the only reason to volunteer! The best reason to volunteer is simply because “It’s for the kids”! AYSO Region 47 works because thousands of adults each year “do their part” to help our soccer program and help your child. We need your help to ensure all of our players have a great experience this season.
